Taste the south in a new way

The goal with these tours is to fully engage all 5 senses. Whether it's sampling nature's bounty with our Locally Sourced and Cycled Tours or gaining a new historical or cultural perspective, these tours promise to immerse you in this Valley in a thoroughly unforgettable way.

LOCALLY SOURCED AND CYCLED

Our Locally Sourced and Cycled Tours are designed to immerse you in the natural bounty of a distinct region. These are not like wine tours you may have been on before, although we'll definitely stop at a few carefully chosen wineries along the way. These are immersive introductions to the produce and products of an area, led by a host who will explain the work and passion behind each of these gifts. We'll introduce you to the stories behind the tasting rooms and sales counters, getting a perspective most visitors never get. At the end, you have the option of adding a farm-to-table lunch that will bring this all full circle!

If ever there was a place where nature seemed overly generous, it must be the Naramata bench. There are 29 wineries (at last count) sprinkled along the bench. But this isn't just about wines. There are also lavender farms, creameries that produce award winning cheeses, craft distilleries, orchards - a smorgasbord of nature's bounty. With the guidance of our host, winemaker Amber Pratt, we'll wind through this rich area, sampling as we go. Along the way, feel free to stock up. The G.O. Support Vehicle can pick up your purchases so you don't have to worry about carrying them.

Summerland - even the name promises sun dappled vineyards and orchards, warm breezes and plenty of carefully ripened produce. With our host, Roch Fortin (you'll get to sample some of his family's Maple Syrup, bottled right in Summerland) we'll wind our way through the vineyards of Bottleneck Drive and the Summerland area to show you the extraordinary variety of products that comes from this scenic bench. You'll be cycling on what once was the bottom of a huge prehistoric lake. That rich lake silt, coupled with ideal growing conditions is the perfect environment for tree fruit, wine grapes and so much more. That could be why this is the home to Canada's foremost agricultural research facility (which we'll visit).

Gene Covert

Owner: Covert Farms

From Oliver to Osoyoos lies one of Canada's richest growing regions. The western slopes of the Valley are called the Golden Mile because of it's ideal growing conditions. There are actually two distinct growing regions here, where conditions differ based both on exposure to the sun and the nature of the soil. We'll explore both sides, explaining the differences in the varietals found. We'll also make a stop at Covert Farms, where you'll get a chance to tour one of the Okanagan's most renowned organic farms.

The tour wraps up with an optional farm-to-table gourmet lunch at Hester Creek Winery.

Myra Canyon: McCulloch's Miracle

KEVIN WITZKE

Railway Engineer

This tour has a historic theme. We offer other KVR Tours from Kelowna. Check here.

Myra Canyon is a box canyon about a kilometer wide. In 1910, when engineer Andrew McCulloch tackled the challenge of getting the Kettle Valley Railway across this canyon, he knew it would not be easy. He was right. He literally had to hang his railway from the side of the surrounding mountains, requiring the construction of 19 trestles and the laying of 11 kilometers of track. He later commented that he had, "never seen a railway built in such difficult conditions." Join us for this ride along an engineering miracle. Our host, railway engineer Kevin Witzke (who helped reconstruct the trestles after the 2003 fire) will give you an unforgettable glimpse of the challenges that lay before the K.V.R. construction crew over 100 years ago. We'll do an out and back from the Myra parking lot, as the scenery (and story) is completely different each way.

Summerland and Trout Creek History Ride and Rail

  Wayne Wilson Historian and Artist

Wayne Wilson

Historian and Artist

Summerland is an area rich in history. The Okanagan Salish were the first inhabitants. In the early 1800's the Hudson's Bay Brigade Trail saw 300 mule pack trains carrying supplies for the Interior along a route that cut through Summerland. In the early 1900's the Kettle Valley Railway chose this same route to head west towards Princeton. Our ride will explore both the Brigade Trail through the Garnet Valley and the historic KVR route, which is now the TransCanada Trail. Along the way, Wayne Wilson, our historian host, will share fascinating stories of the history of the area. We wrap up with a visit to Prairie Valley Station and a ride on history Kettle Valley Steam Train (Train doesn't run on Monday or Tuesday)

A Unique Experience - from a Unique Perspective. There are few places that have inspired as many artists as the South Okanagan, starting over a thousand years ago with the Skaha Petroglyphs. With local artists as our guides, we'll visit some of the most popular scenic settings, including the Naramata Bench, Skaha Lake, Vaseux Lake and the McIntyre Bluff. We'll also visit a number of hidden away galleries (some at wineries) on the way and meet the artists in residence. Picture taking is highly encouraged!
